Peter De Groof finished his studies textile conservation-restoration & preventive conservation at the Royal Art Academy of Anderlecht, Brussels in 1993. Next, he worked as a textile conservator-restorer at the Royal Institute for Cultural Heritage (KIK/IRPA) from 1993 until 2011. In 2012, he started as textile conservator-restorer at the Royal Army Museum in Brussels until the present day.
In his presentation, he will explain about the considerable difficulty of restoring and moving a very special 100% blue asbestos flame thrower’s suit at the Brusssels’ War Heritage Institute, the only one in the world on display. So just how did he do it? Which tough choices had to be made and which lessons can be learned from his shared experience?
