Peter Loockx is a researcher specializing in hazardous heritage, with a strong background in history and over two decades of expertise in asbestos management. Currently serving as a researcher for ETWIE (Center for Industrial Heritage), Peter is dedicated to providing practical and effective solutions for the safe handling of asbestos in heritage projects. His work includes research on the history of asbestos and the development of tools and recommendations for museums and restoration projects. Actively involved in fieldwork, Peter has contributed to several publications and delivered numerous lectures, enhancing asbestos awareness within the heritage sector. His role encompasses not only research but also hands-on asbestos surveillance at heritage institutions and collaboration with different cultural partners and the Flemish Government (OVAM). At the upcoming asbestos congress, Peter will present “Asbestos in Heritage,” where he will leverage his expertise to emphasize the critical importance of safe asbestos management in the preservation of cultural and historical assets.
